I recently contacted Cathy from www.greysave.org to learn more about an organization. Here's what she has to say about this what they do:
"We are dedicated to bringing greyhounds back to the US from the race track in Mexico, teaching them the skills they need to family pets and placing them in loving Forever Homes.We established GreySave as a Not-for-profit 501(C)(3) in October of 2006 with the goal of finding loving forever homes for as many greyhounds as we could place. We
expected that to be about 25 in the 1st twelve months. We have now placed approximately 120 in the 19 months we have been operating. We primarily get our greyhounds of the race track in Tijuana Mexico but do get a few out of shelters and from people who for whatever reason can no longer care for their hounds. We are a 100% volunteer organization. They are the heart and soul of the operation. All of our hounds, once we get them across the border, checked out medically and cleaned up, go to live in foster homes where they start to learn about what it means to be a pet. Our main location is in Pasadena CA but we have volunteers and foster homes from Thousand Oaks in the North to San Juan Capistrano in the south. Since our program is foster home based the biggest challenge we face is finding enough foster homes since without them we cannot bring the dogs back to the states and get him or her ready for adoption."
